Barnes Wealth Management in conjunction with MLC’s renowned ‘Threesixty’ Research Team, strives to construct optimal investment portfolios. Our access to extensive international and Australian research, enables us to consider the many factors interacting to affect your investments and adjust our advice accordingly.
We have a tactical approach to investing, focusing firstly on asset allocation and then the underlying investments.
We will always aim to have significant bias to Value style investment managers and assets, although we also use a 'Top Down' or 'Bottom Up' approach when appropriate.
‘Top down’ ensures that we consider the macro-economic conditions in the global economy. Top down investors start from the highest level decisions, such as deciding how much to invest in different classes of investments (such as shares and bonds) and in which geographic regions around the world.
‘Bottom Up’ : this approach focuses on the analysis of individual stocks. In bottom-up investing, the research focuses attention on a specific company rather than on the industry in which that company operates or on the economy as a whole. This is the opposite of "top-down investing". Making sound decisions based on a bottom-up investing strategy entails a thorough review of the company's products and services, its financial stability and its research reports.
Value investing: the strategy of selecting undervalued investments both in Australia and throughout the world. Value managers actively seek stocks of companies that they believe the market has undervalued. They believe the market overreacts to good and bad news, resulting in stock price movements that do not correspond with the company's long-term fundamentals. The result is an opportunity for value investors to profit by buying when the price is deflated. Typically, value investors select stocks with lower-than-average price-to-book or price-to-earnings ratios and/or high dividend yields.
